When a family separates into two households, it is necessary to determine how much time the children will be spending with either parent. As with custody, Kentucky courts apply the “best interests of the child” standard in fashioning a parenting time or visitation plan for families. From time to time, parenting time/visitation arrangements may need to be modified for a multitude of reasons, including the children’s needs and the parent’s ability to meet those needs, as well as a move by a parent, a change in work schedules, children’s schedules, activities, etc. Existing parenting time arrangements may be modified if the court determines that the modification would be in the children’s best interests. Every family is different and the attorneys at Johnson Cook Abbott Ahrens & Shiffman PLLC can provide assistance in helping parents determine what schedule would best suit the needs of their families.
